Duncan Bateson Wins Apprentice of the Year

by

Duncan Bateson, 19, an employee with the Ipswich branch of Bartram Mowers, has been named Apprentice of the Year at the Service Dealer Awards, which took place at a gala dinner in Old Windsor, Berkshire.

Duncan, who lives in Diss, is in the second year of a five-year apprenticeship at Bartram Mowers, who are located on the Ransomes Europark. He attends West Suffolk College on day release, where he is studying Engineering & Maintenance.

Adrian Kersey, Branch Manager at Bartram Mowers Ipswich commented,
“Duncan has progressed well since starting with us over a year ago. He is very keen and conscientious; although he lives in Diss and is reliant on public transport he is one of the first in the building every morning. His technical skills are improving and he has progressed to working on domestic and commercial mowers. He is always very happy at work and the senior mechanics tell me he can now almost make a reasonable cup of tea!”

Modern Apprenticeships provide individuals with an opportunity to work for an employer and accumulate valuable workplace skills, whilst earning a salary and gaining a qualification. 85% of all apprentices stay in employment after completing their course, with the majority (64%) staying with the same employer.

Service Dealer is one of the UK’s leading news and information resources for gardens, turf care, farm, ATV and outdoor power equipment. The ceremony is now in its sixth year, and awards prizes for those who excel in the field.

Chris Biddle, Editor of Service Dealer magazine added, “Duncan has proved a worthy winner of our Apprentice of the Year Award. He demonstrates full commitment to the job, a willingness to learn and progress – and I’m sure he will prove to be a valuable member of the Bartram’s staff over the coming years. He fully deserves this recognition”.
